Wait List Process for a Burmese or Mandalay kitten
When your turn comes up on the waiting list, we will contact you via text to allocate a kitten. A confirmation email with the kittens' details will be sent and you will need to pay $100 deposit to confirm if you are wanting to go ahead. The deposit is non-refundable if you cancel after the kitten is 8 weeks old. Once you accept, we will email you the "How to look after your Burmese and Mandalay kitten" manual which will give you everything you need to know. Burmese and Mandalays are bullet proof so you can't really do anything wrong. We will be in contact around 9-10 weeks to organise final payment and transport.
Note that I share the waiting list with Sharlene Lee of KittyMeadow, we have the same lines and work closely together. Sharlene is a retired nurse and midwife and has similar skills for raising healthy cats. You may be contacted by Sharlene if she has a litter to allocate.
Transport
We're based in Prebbleton, Christchurch. Transportation options are available through Flying Paws (domestic), Star Pet Travel (international), or personal pickup at Christchurch airport (NZ only). An airline-compliant cage is available for $90. We have a friendly truck driver who can transport kittens from Christchurch to Invercargill for $100. We also use fellow travellers from the facebook page "NZ Pet Transport Nannies" so we have plenty of options for getting kittens around as economically as possible.
The cost of transportation is likely to be around $250 per kitten, but alternative arrangements, such as grouping kittens together can help reduce costs.
Kitten Health
Kittens are rehomed at 11-12 weeks and undergo thorough vet checks, including worming, microchipping, first vaccination, and neutering or spaying.
Kitten Safety
Burmese and Mandalays are devils at exploring and finding DUMB ways to die -not just on roads, some have been mauled by dogs, squashed by garage doors, fallen out of trees, transported away in an EV, etc. They’re also good at getting stuck in drawers, cupboards, attics, sheds and neighbour's garages etc! The cats that are allowed to wander house to house sleeping on neighbour's beds might be cute (ESPECIALLY when you get a text in the morning of them all in bed together!) but are at high risk of being stolen (by your neighbours!). It’s tragic and we don’t want you to suffer the grief of this happening to your kitten. We advise keeping them inside for AT LEAST 9 months – particularly at night. It's ok to take them out into the garden while you’re out there as long as you’ve trained them to come back (the feather and bell on a stick is excellent for this job!). ALWAYS know where they are when you’re doing something dangerous like shutting the garage door or reversing the car. I suggest you look at getting a "Catio". Plenty of examples on Pinterest or purchase from www.catnets.co.nz

If, after reading this, you're wondering if a Burmese or Mandalay is really right for you, talk to us about British Short Hairs as they might be more suitable (we have some coming up). BSHs are great pets but not quite so adventurous so more ideal if you live near a road or hazards.
Pet Insurance
We submit all owner's names for PD Pet insurance and you will get 3 weeks free if you sign up. This used to be optional but Burmese kittens are very good at getting themselves into trouble (falling, jumping, eating things they shouldn't) so we now sleep better at night knowing you're covered for the first 3 weeks. We STRONGLY recommend continuing insurance for at least a year as this is the most risky time of their life for accidents.
Personal Note
Please note - the waiting list is only accessed when I am allocating kittens (you wont get a confirmation email -I'm not technically savvy enough for that!), keep an eye on new litters following "Crazy Cat Lady Therapy" on Facebook. Email me via this page or via the facebook page if you have a specific comment or question. Although the cats don't seem to mind the loving man-handling, I prefer not to sell to homes with children under 4 years.
